Ms. Allison Paul (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a culturally responsive, affirming therapist committed to supporting individuals from marginalized and underrepresented communities. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology, a Master’s in Human Service Management, and a Master’s in Social Work.
Allison’s positionality includes being a cisgender, Caucasian female; mostly lesbian; poly-questioning; kink-aware and affirming; lower middle-aged; middle class; raised in Kentucky; and part of a multi-racial, multi-ethnic family. She is also a world traveler, biological mother of multiples, divorced, with an athletic background, an adult learner, and a family member of individuals with behavioral health challenges.
For over 20 years, Allison has worked in the field of social work with a focus on youth, young adults, and families. Her passion for this population led to an extensive career in the child welfare system, where she supported individuals involved with homeless shelters, transitional group homes, independent living programs, the judicial system, foster care, and education systems.
In recent years, Allison became an LCSW to further her commitment to helping others heal and lead more empowered, fulfilling lives. She currently serves as a Clinical Supervisor for two adult crisis units, working with a diverse range of individuals navigating complex life experiences and mental health challenges. Prior to joining Awen Health & Wellness, she also maintained a small private mental health practice.
In addition to her therapeutic work, Allison partners with her certified therapy dog, who works alongside her in the crisis units, at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, and in other community settings. The presence of her therapy dog provides emotional support and helps foster a calm, healing environment for clients in various settings.
Allison believes in the power of authenticity and recognizes that every person’s path to healing is unique. She is deeply curious about each client’s lived experience and is passionate about supporting individuals in developing their own journeys toward wellness. Allison specializes in adult treatment and draws on a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
